On June 18, 2024 The Midland Park Memorial Library Board of Trustees voted to designate our library a book sanctuary.

What does our library becoming a Book Sanctuary mean?
At the Midland Park Memorial Library, we proudly designate ourselves as a Book Sanctuary, dedicated to preserving intellectual freedom and protecting the diversity of literature. We provide a safe and welcoming space where all readers can explore a wide range of books, including those often challenged or censored. Join us in celebrating and safeguarding the freedom to read and learn in our community.
Does Being a Book Sanctuary Prevent Book Challenges?
Being a Book Sanctuary does not prevent book challenges, but it means we are committed to addressing them thoughtfully and upholding the principles of intellectual freedom. We ensure that all viewpoints are represented and that readers have access to a diverse range of literature, even if some books are challenged. Does being a Book Sanctuary override the libraries collection development policy?
No it does not, this is not a policy it is a resolution.
